Outdoor Art

Last week we wrote senses poems about a trip to the beach and Miss Rendall was very impressed with the descriptive language that we used.  We spent some time this afternoon making a group picture of a beach so we can display our poems for everyone to read as it would be a shame not to share them. We worked together to paint the background and then each chose something from our poems to draw and then add to the picture.

Teeth

Last week we had a visit from Karyn Tait who spoke to us about looking after our teeth. We learned how to brush your teeth correctly and why it's important to care for your teeth. 

We also learned about how much sugar is in different foods and drinks that we like. We had to cut out spoons of sugar and try to match them to the different items. 

We learned that coke has 7 spoons of sugar per can and a packet of raisins has 2 spoonfuls. 

Taste Test

Last week we did a taste test to see if we could guess the flavour of a variety of crisps. We used a table to record our data so it fitted in well with our maths focus last week too. 

We looked at how our taste buds work and the different flavours they recognise. We then talked about the different flavours of the crisps and whether they were salty, sweet, or bitter. 

SSPCA Visit

Yesterday we had a visit from Carol from the SSPCA which was really interestesting. We learned about the different types of work the SSPCA does and the different animals they care for. 

We were very good at listening and answering any questions. 

We also watched a video about baby foxes which the SPPCA rescued and looked after until they could be released into the wild again. 

We had time to ask questions at the end. 

Data Handling

This week in maths we are learning about interpreting and recording data. We started by working in groups and looking at a class noticeboard. We took it in turns to ask questions about it and the rest of our group had to guess which part we were describing. Some of the questions were: "if I wanted to know who was having packed lunch where would I look? and "if I wanted to check who was using the ICT suite where would I look?"

We also looked at the noticeboard on the smart board and Miss Rendall asked us different questions about it. 

Yesterday we spoke about recording data and the different ways you can do this. We started by discussing tally marks and how to use them. We then looked at tables and the different ways they can be used. We worked in pairs to count different letters on a page in one of our books and then added the data to our table. 

Estimating Weight

Today we went outside to use the balance scales again. Each of us chose an object to weigh and then the rest of the group worked together to use play dough to match the weight and make the scales level. It was quite tricky to get it exactly right so we had to be quite precise.

We then used 10g weights to measure out different weights of play dough.
