Estimating Weight

Today we went outside to use the balance scales again. Each of us chose an object to weigh and then the rest of the group worked together to use play dough to match the weight and make the scales level. It was quite tricky to get it exactly right so we had to be quite precise.

Is is level?

We then used 10g weights to measure out different weights of play dough.

Hopefully the sun continues to shine for Sports Day tomorrow!

Lepra Dance Workout

Today Steph Baird very kindly came in and taught us a dance routine to help us raise money for Lepra. We had lots of fun learning the moves and dancing to the music.

Thank you to everyone who donated money towards our Lepra fundraiser. It is much appreciated!

Drama

We had another drama session with Mrs Linklater today which was great fun. We warmed up by playing a game which was a bit like Fruit Salad but with body parts. We had to listen carefully to hear if we had to run or not.

We then got to act out our body parts from last week and explain why the surgeon couldn't chop us off! Miss Rendall was very impressed with our answers as we gave really good reasons.

We then sat really quietly and listened to a story. We imagined using all of our senses to create the story in our heads.

Nature Walk

This week in topic we are learning about how senses and what they do. We went on a nature walk round the school and used our senses to take learn about what was happening around us. We wrote down what we could see, hear, smell and touch. We went out with the Bumblebees so we paired up with them which was good fun.

Weight

This week in maths we have been learning about weight. We spoke about all the different reasons you might weigh something and how you would do it. We then used a balance to compare the weight of different objects. After that we used it to work out how many cubes, crayons, paint brushes and dominoes were the same as an apple.

How many crayons weigh the same as an apple?

How many paint brushes?

There were lots of cubes!

The Brain

Today in topic we were learning about the brain. We spoke about how the brain works and how it sends messages round our body using our nerves. We also looked at the different parts of the brain and what they do.

We coloured in the different parts and labelled them to show what they do.

Folk Festival Visitors

Today we had a visit from Mick West who are a duo who are in Orkney for the Folk Festival. They taught us some songs and performed for us which we really enjoyed.

Thank you for a super session!
