Last week we spent some time thinking about Good Fit books and choosing a book which challenges us but isn't too difficult, as we need to be able to read it independently during Read to Self time. We use the Five Finger Rule where we read the first two pages of a book and put a finger up every time we find a word we don't know. 5 fingers means it is too hard for us and no fingers means it is probably too easy, 2-3 fingers makes for a Good Fit book!
We had a visit from the library van last week so this was a perfect chance to find some Good Fit books...
Once we got back to class we had some Read to Self time.
We can sit wherever we like during this time.
When we had finished our Read to Self we spent some time reading our books to the rest of the class to help us develop our fluency, accuracy and expression - all key ingredients in being a successful reader!
We really enjoyed Read to Self time and look forward to building these skills again.
